Summer Job as Drawing Inventory Specialist
Job ResponsibilitiesWhen multiple railway tracks meet, it is essential to ensure that vehicles can stop without the risk of collision. This is done by establishing a clear point of obstruction (HIP), which indicates where a vehicle can safely stand near track switches. Vehicles used solely in Sweden are approved by the Transport Agency, while international vehicles are approved via ERA. The Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSD) should normally be followed, but Swedish requirements in TSFS 2022:36 regarding buffer overhang are partially missing in TSD, which poses a risk that some vehicles are not adapted to Swedish infrastructure.
To manage the risk of vehicles being approved that are not adapted to Swedish infrastructure, the facility needs to be inventoried, and locations with too short distances between the clear point of obstruction and the insulating joint need to be identified. To limit the number of track switches requiring a physical measurement, the first step is to inventory drawings, which will take place in this summer job. By studying drawings, you will assess which track switches require a physical measurement and which have a sufficient distance between the clear point of obstruction and the insulating joint and can therefore be excluded from the physical inventory. Trafikverket manages nearly 11,000 track switches, so we are looking for a person who is meticulous and structured. The drawing inventory you conduct will form the basis for physical measurements and planning of actions in the tracks.
